North East Tennessee Home Education Association

While NETHEA positively does NOT advocate state-required standardized testing, we do believe that parents who choose to evaluate their child's progress through testing should have a means to do this.  Therefore, we are sponsoring standardized testing this year in cooperation with HomeLife Academy (www.homelifeacademy.com) .

You do not have to be a member of NETHEA or HomeLife Academy in order to test with us.  HomeLife Academy is a church-related school and we are thankful for their sponsorship, which is allowing us to conduct this testing.  Of course we encourage you to click here to find out more about the Northeast Tennessee Home Education Association and consider membership in this organization.  NETHEA works diligently to preserve your homeschool freedoms.

Some reasons to test through NETHEA:

- your child will be tested in a small group setting (maximum of ten children per grade level)

- group testing provides good practice for college entrance exams (such as ACT and SAT) that you child may take later

- you are the only person who will review your child's test results and the score reports will be treated with the utmost privacy

- testing is relatively inexpensive through NETHEA ($28 per child)

We believe that parents have a right to access their children's academic progress without interference from state or local school officials.  We will continue to support parents' rights to choose their children's curriculum, teach subjects of their choosing, and educate their children at home.  By providing services like testing, we hope to aid you along this wonderful journey of homeschooling.

Standardized testing for spring 2010 will take place on April 14 and 15 (Wed & Thurs) at the University Parkway Baptist Church.  If you want your child to participate in testing, you MUST be available for the duration of testing (from about 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) to proctor or help in the childcare area.  The coordinator will decide where you are most needed and she'll make assignments prior to the testing date.  However, this is a COOPERATIVE EFFORT.  It can only take place with the active participation of the parents involved.  If you are not available to volunteer on both days of testing, your child will not be allowed to participate.
